How to Obtain a KITAS Family Union in Indonesia

Overview

If you are a foreign national who wishes to stay longer in Indonesia with your spouse or family, the KITAS Family Union (also known as a Dependent KITAS) is the right solution. This permit allows you to legally reside in Indonesia for an extended period without the need to frequently exit and re-enter the country.
With a KITAS Family Union, you can enjoy quality time with your loved ones while living comfortably and securely in Indonesia.

Legal Basis

1. Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration

2. Government Regulation No. 31 of 2013 on the Implementation of the Immigration Law

3. Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation No. 27 of 2014 on Stay Permits for Foreigners

What Is a KITAS Family Union?

The KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card) Family Union is a temporary residence permit granted to family members of a foreign national (WNA) who already holds a valid stay permit in Indonesia.
This type of KITAS is typically issued for:

1. The spouse and children of a foreigner holding a work, investor, or retirement KITAS.

2. The spouse of an Indonesian citizen (WNI).

With a KITAS Family Union, family members of the primary permit holder can legally reside in Indonesia and enjoy similar rights throughout the validity of the permit.

Benefits of Having a KITAS Family Union

1. Legal Residence in Indonesia – Allows you and your family to stay lawfully without violating immigration regulations.

2. Ease of Mobility – Eliminates the need for multiple visa applications for each visit.

3. Access to Public Services – Enables you to open bank accounts, rent housing, and process local administrative documents more easily.

4. Family Stability – Allows families to live together and build a stable life in Indonesia for the long term.
